Mickie James debuted on the Wrestling scene in 1999 as a valet for KYDA pro wrestling in Manassas, Virginia under the name Alexis Laree, a name influenced by her dancing career. James started out as a manager to famous male wrestlers such as Steve Corino and Tommy Dreamer. She soon got into the ring as a wrestler following feuds with other managers, valets and wrestlers. She was apt for the job having attended a professional wrestling school in Washington DC. James continued to train after starting her wrestling career by attending training camps such as the Funking conservatory.

James and her sister Latoiya , native Americans, grew up on a farm in Montpelier Virginia watching horse shows on weekends and later riding her own horse bought by her grandmother at age 11. Mickie was a wrestling fan from a young age and watched shows with her father. Some of her role models include Randy Savage, Ricky Steamboat and Ric Flair.

James got into the ring as a wrestler in March 1999 having teamed up with Jake Damian against Mike Brown and Candie. She debuted in the Total Non stop Action Wrestling as Alexis Laree in the company’s second pay-per-view.

Although James has fought many women in the ring, her most unforgettable fights are those against men. She became the first woman to compete in a Clockwork Orange House of fun match on April 16th and together with Julio Dinero, defeated Jeff Jarrett, NWA World Heavy weight champion in a 2-on-1 match.
James’s career has also gone through many promotions such as Beautiful Babes of Wrestling (BBOW) and Professional Girl Wrestling Association (PGWA) in 1999. She has also promoted hardcore women’s wrestling through her 2001 promotions, Dangerous Women of Wrestling (DWOW) and Women’s Extreme Wrestling (WEW).

James’s career has been colored by her interesting love affairs. On her debut on WWE in October 2005, she used the gimmick WWE Women’s Champion Trish Stratus biggest fan. She later teamed up with Stratus in and out of the ring. Her obsession with Stratus was such that she eliminated herself and Victoria so that Stratus could win the Fulfill Your Fantasy Battle Royal at Taboo Tuesday. She even started using Stratus moves as her own. What’s more, she kissed Stratus under mistletoe and publicly complimented her breasts.

Stratus confronted James and they seemed to have straightened things out, after which they teamed up against Candice Michelle and Victoria defeating them in the Saturday Nights’ Main Event on March 18th 2006. James attempted to kiss Stratus again only to be pushed away. This enraged James who vowed to destroy Stratus. They ended up fighting against each other at the Wrestlemania 22 with James taking the Women’s Title.

James however lost the title to Lita who hit her on the face with the title as her boyfriend distracted the referee. A feud inevitably ensued between the two divas which only ended when James defeated Lita at Survivor Series winning her second women’s championship. James has since won and lost many fights, gaining and losing titles at short intervals and lost in her latest attempt at the WWE Women’s Championship against Beth Phoenix.
